I made the decision to upgrade from a magnetic row counter to a brass crank wheel mounted work of art sold by Dave Lord of Chambord CSM.
I started having issues of machine magnetism - csm needles started misbehaving as the latches failed to correctly open having become magnetic and troublesome. Also with a counter mounted on the stand, not the machine, it meant the counter was unusable when the machine wasn’t on that stand. Not ideal.
The original counter was a magnetic one that I had purchased online eons ago by Sox by Rox - its very similar to a bicycle style counter using a magnetic which when mounted in a way it comes near the sensor, counts the row. (I later discovered these are available on eBay and Amazon in a wide variety of styles - even non-magnetic ones like those sold on the Erlbacher Gearhart CSMS).
Choosing to use a magnetic or a non-magnetic counter is a decision each person needs to contemplate. I personally do not recommend magnetic ANYTHING near the CSM (this includes magnetic screw drivers).
This wonderful counter was purchased from Dave Lord of Chambord CSM in Quebec Canada via mail. Dave includes a small drill bit and full instructions. To get this brass crank wheel row counter of your own email Dave Lord at dave@chambordcsm.com
I added red nail polish to my counter to make reading it easier.
